South Bend, IN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Freshman goaltender Matt McNeely stopped 29 shots as the #13-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team beat #9-ranked Notre Dame 3-1 on Thursday night.
The game marked McNeely's first-ever collegiate start and win, coming in UMD's first road contest of the 2012-13 season.
Fourth-liners Cal Decowski and Dan DeLisle each scored a goal in the winning effort, with Justin Crandall adding the third for the Bulldogs. For Decowski, the goal was the first of his collegiate career.
UMD is now (2-1-0) this season and will look to complete the sweep of Notre Dame on Friday night, with drop of the puck set for 6:35 p.m.
