Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) freshman Sam Rivard has qualified for three separate NCAA Division II meets this year and won the national championship in the indoor mile --- but this weekend she will face an entirely new challenge.
Rivard will be one of nearly 8,500 runners trying to complete the 2014 Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, a race in which she hopes to be competitive but still have some fun.
"Yeah, definitely enjoy it," Rivard said of her plans for Saturday. "I'm not going to take it too serious or beat myself up if I don't get a killer time, but this was an end-of-the-year present to myself, getting to run Grandma's half."
The 24th annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon will start at 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, with the 38th annual Grandma's Marathon set to start at 7:45 a.m.
