Pensacola, FL (NNCNOW.com) --- The fourth-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) volleyball team snuck by No. 18 Wheeling Jesuit University in five sets at the West Florida Opening Tournament in Pensacola on Friday.

The Bulldogs jumped out early to win the first set 25-16 and did much of the same in the second set in a 25-17 win.

The Cardinals rebounded in the third and fourth sets to draw even before UMD outlasted Wheeling Jesuit 15-8 in the fifth and final set.

Senior outside hitter Kate Lange led the Bulldogs with 28 kills, just one short of her career high. Sophmore middle blocker Monica Turner and freshman middle blocker Sydnie Mauch each added 11 kills. Mauch also finished with four solo blocks in her UMD debut.

The Bulldogs (1-0) play again on Friday when they take on host No. 19 West Florida. That match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
