Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Hibbing, Minn. native Kate Lange gets a lot of headlines when it comes to the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) volleyball team, but she is the first to say it's role players like Brainerd, Minn. native Sydnie Mauch that help the Bulldogs be great.

Mauch, a redshirt freshman is second on the team this season with an average of 2.49 kills per set, and she says it's a good offensive balance that makes the UMD offense go.

"Our offense in the front row is pretty evenly distributed, so it gives other teams a harder time deciding who they're going to block," Mauch said. "If they release on Kate, we'll be one-on-one, and the other way around, too."

UMD is (31-2) this season and will be hosting the NCAA Division II Central Region tournament, with the Bulldogs' first game set for Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. against Arkansas Tech.
