Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Maintenance crews continued to clear snow as practice started on Thursday afternoon, but the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) football team did indeed take to the turf at Malosky Stadium for the start of spring drills.

UMD is coming off an (11-2) season in which the team qualified for a sixth straight NCAA Division II tournament, and the 2014 roster will feature 13 returning starters from that 2013 squad.

Even with the weather feeling more like early winter than early spring, senior running back Austin Sikorski says it's always fun to be practicing with his teammates.

"Every time you get out here it's an opportunity," Sikorski said. "You can't take it for granted. We get a chance to do this, and not a lot of guys do. A lot of guys would kill for this chance, so it's nice to be out here with the guys."

UMD's spring season will culminate with the annual Maroon-White game, with that scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on April 25.
