Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) senior running back Austin Skiorski has been released from the hospital after being stabbed this past Saturday morning in downtown Duluth, he confirmed in a statement through the school.

"I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the UMD Athletics staff, my teammates, family, friends, and hospital staff and to all of those who have shown their support in so many ways," the statement read. "I have been released from the hospital and look forward to furthering my recovery, getting back to full strength, and turning my focus to the upcoming semester."

The 22-year-old Sikorski was involved in a street fight at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday on West Superior Street near Lake Avenue which ended in him being stabbed in the lower right side of his abdomen and left him with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Duluth Police Department has identified a "person of interest" in the case, but had not made an arrest as of Monday. The case remains under investigation.

Sikorski was UMD's leading rusher last season, totaling 1,260 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was also named a preseason All-American this summer by USA College Football.
