Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) freshman forward Alex Iafallo has been chosen as the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) rookie of the week, it was announced on Monday.

This marks the third time this season Iafallo has won the award, which is the most among first-year NCHC players.

Iafallo's biggest impact this weekend came in Friday's game against MSU-Mankato, a game in which he tallied two assists and scored with 26.5 seconds left in overtime to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 win.

He was then held scoreless in Saturday's game against No. 1 Minnesota, but he did put four shots on net as UMD earned a 4-4 tie before falling in a shootout.

The Eden, N.Y. native currently leads all UMD freshmen and is second among NCHC newcomers with nine goals and nine assists for 18 points through 22 games.
