Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) women's hockey coach Shannon Miller is once again making her mark on the international stage, this time mentoring former NHL star Alexei Yashin.

Miller is mentoring Yashin and the rest of the Russian women's national team ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, that in an effort to help the staff and coaches better understand the women's game.

“He goes on the ice in practice with the women, and he’s so good and so big, that when he says to try something, they do it without hesitation,” Miller said of Yashin. “They are almost scared of him they respect him so much. Coaching and playing are so different, and he contributes something so different from what I can provide or what Russia’s coaches provide."

The Russian team also has a couple players with ties to Miller, those being current Bulldog Aleksandra Vafina and UMD alumnus Iya Gavrilova.
