UMD's Plante Leaves for Ivan Hlinka Tournament

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Cloquet, Minn. native and University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) assistant men's hockey coach Derek Plante left for Washington, D.C. on Saturday as the head coach of the U.S. Under-18 team for the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

A year ago, Plante was the assistant coach for the U.S. U-18 team before being named head coach this summer. The U.S. finished as runners-up in 2013.

Plante and the rest of Team USA will spent three days in Washington, D.C. before heading to Europe.

The tournament gets underway Aug.11-16 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.
