Des Moines, IA (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) freshman Samantha Rivard set a new program record in the 5,000-meters on Thursday afternoon, running the race in a time of 16:29.73 at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

Rivard finished in fifth place behind four Division I runners, and her pace was more than nine seconds better than the old mark set by former UMD All-American Morgan Place in 2012.
