UMD's Rivard, Warmington Earn NSIC Honors

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) freshman runner Samantha Rivard and women's track and field head coach Joanna Warmington have together laid claim to three of the four yearly awards in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), it was announced on Tuesday.

Rivard was named the NSIC track athlete and newcomer of the year, that after she won both the 5,000-meter and mile races at the conference championships and qualified for four events at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Oak Grove, Minn. native, though, will compete in only three of those events March 14-15 in Salem, NC, those being the mile, the 3,000 meters, and the distance medley relay.

Warmington, meanwhile, was named the NSIC coach of the year after leading the Bulldogs to its first conference team title in 10 years and helping UMD athletes qualify in nine events for the national meet.
