Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) freshman defenseman Lara Stalder has been named to the final women's hockey roster for Team Switzerland ahead of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, it was announced on Tuesday.
Stalder is one of eight defensemen to make the final roster, and UMD head coach Shannon Miller says she expects the first-time Olympian to fit in well on the international stage.
"She's got great feet, great hands, and great vision," Miller said. "She's tough, she's fast, and she's a great kid. I think she'll be one of their best players on the Swiss Olympic team."
The 19-year-old Stalder has quickly developed into a staple on UMD's blue line this season, totaling four goals and 13 assists across 20 games for the Bulldogs.
She and Team Switzerland are in a group with Canada, Finland, and the United States, with the team's first game is scheduled for Feb. 8 against the Canadians.
