Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) junior defenseman Tea Villila has been named to the final women's hockey roster for Team Finland ahead of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, she was informed on Wednesday morning.
"Representing Finland and putting that jersey on is a great honor every time, and do that in the Olympics, that would be something that I simply can't put into words," Villila told the official UMD website. "I have heard stories from the other players that have played in the Olympics and they have repeatedly told me how it is such an incredible event and that it really just has to be experienced to explain it."
Villila has been a staple on the Bulldogs' blue line in her three seasons, having totaled one goal and nine assists through 18 games thus far in the 2013-14 campaign.
The 2014 Games will be her first Olympic appearance, although she has skated previously with Team Finland three times at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships.
Finland is in a preliminary group with Canada, Switzerland, and the United States and will begin round robin play on Feb. 8 against the Americans.
