Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) football team took the field on Monday afternoon for the first time this season to prepare for an opponent, that ahead of the team's season opener this Saturday.
The Bulldogs will take on Sioux Falls at Malosky Stadium, with the game marking the first-ever meeting between the now Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) rivals.
"Every team in this conference is going to give us a challenge," freshman quarterback Drew Bauer said. "It's a strong conference. We don't know exactly what to expect because they've only been in the conference for a year, and we haven't played them yet."
The season opener will mark Bauer's first as starting quarterback for UMD, and it will also mark the first as head coach for Curt Wiese.
"It's definitely a different feeling heading into this week," Wiese said. "In that same sense, though, I think we'll be ready come Saturday afternoon."
Saturday's game will kick off at 6:00 p.m. at Malosky Stadium and can be seen on live television in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network.
