Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- After starting spring drills in just jerseys and sweatpants, the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) football team now has pads on and is doing some contact drills during the offseason workout program.

"It's always fun to get the pads on and get back out there," senior linebacker Gavin Grady said. "It just lets you know that football is back in the swing of things."

"It feels a little more like football," head coach Curt Wiese said. "We get more out of it, and I think it raises the competition level of our guys to come out with a little bit of energy and compete against the guy next to them."

The spring season for UMD will culminate with the annual Maroon-White scrimmage, which is set for 6:00 p.m. on April 25 at Malosky Stadium.
