Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Sophomore Drew Bauer this fall is entering his second season as the starting quarterback of the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) football team, and with that experience comes some higher expectations from the coaching staff.
"Drew's a competitor," head coach Curt Wiese said. "He expects a lot out of himself and to take the next step as a quarterback, and the next step for him is to lead our offense and not kind of be led by the other 10 guys around him. He did a phenomenal job for us last year as a freshman. We expect him to take bigger strides as a sophomore."
As a freshman, Bauer threw for 1,579 yards and 17 touchdowns while also adding 802 rushing yards and nine scores on the ground.
UMD will open the 2014 season Sept. 6 at home against Concordia-St. Paul.
