Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The #4-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) volleyball team survived a scare on Saturday and emerged from the weekend with two wins in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
The Bulldogs' NSIC season opener went according to plan, that a 3-0 win over Northern State on Friday night at Romano Gymnasium.
Hibbing native Kate Lange led UMD in that match with 21 kills, with Kalli Lochner also posting 11 in the winning effort.
Then came a Saturday afternoon matchup with #22-ranked Minnesota State-Moorhead, which UMD won in a thrilling five-set affair.
Lange again led the Bulldogs with 29 kills in the match, followed by 12 each from Lochner and Monica Turner.
UMD is now (11-0) this season and (2-0) in NSIC play, with the team's next matchup set for September 18 on the road to St. Cloud State.
