Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The #8-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) women's hockey team dropped its 2012-13 season opener on Friday night, falling 3-1 to Ohio State at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn.
Katie Wilson scored the lone goal of the game for the Bulldogs, that coming after Ohio State had taken a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Kayla Sullivan scored just 56 seconds into the game for the Buckeyes, and Hokey Langan followed that up exactly six minutes later.
Paige Semenze iced the game for Ohio State in the third period, putting a breakaway chance past UMD freshman goaltender Kayla Black. Black finished the game with 22 saves in her first-ever collegiate start.
The two teams will close out the season-opening series on Saturday, with that game set for 4:07 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.
