Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- An all-Minnesota men's college hockey tournament that will start in January 2014 got its official name on Thursday --- it will be called the "North Star College Cup."

The tournament will feature five Minnesota-based institutions, with the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) being one. Minnesota, St. Cloud State, Bemidji State, and Minnesota State-Mankato will serve as the other four teams.

Minnesota will serve as the permanent host for the tournament, with the other four programs to rotate on a four-year basis to fill the other three slots in the soon-to-be annual event.

UMD will be part of the inaugural tournament in 2014 and will take on Minnesota State-Mankato in the semifinal round, with Minnesota and St. Cloud State playing the other semifinal game.
