Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The #1-ranked Minnesota women's hockey team is currently riding an NCAA-best 53-game winning streak, and the #7-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth hopes it can be the one to finally end it.

The two in-state rivals will meet for a two-game series this weekend at AMSOIL Arena, with games both Friday and Saturday night set to start at 6:07 p.m.

"Minnesota is the best team in the country on paper, but the game isn't played on paper," UMD head coach Shannon Miller said. "The bottom line is we have to be really good defensively and, when we get those offensive opportunities, we have to bury the puck."

Minnesota won all four meetings between these two Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) rivals last season, and the Golden Gophers also lead the all-time series (24-36-6).
