Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) hockey alum and 1980 U.S Olympic gold-medalist John Harrington was back in town on Wednesday night as the keynote speaker at UMD's annual "Dinner with Champions."

Harrington, a Virginia, Minn. native, played four seasons for the Bulldogs after walking-on before playing in the 1980 and 1984 Olympic games. He also played professionally in the American Hockey League and the Central Hockey League.

Now as a scout for the Colorado Avalanche, Harrington knows preparation is the key to success in the classroom or on the court.

"It's important that they prepare well," Harrington said. "That's not just in school but prepare well to play. You're a college athlete. You're playing good competition. If you want to be a champion, you have to prepare and practice like a champion too."
