Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Duluth native Garth Heikkinen set a program record by starting his 48th consecutive game, and the #10-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) football team beat MSU-Moorhead 45-14 on Saturday night at Malosky Stadium.
Heikkinen's record-setting start came in his senior season for the Bulldogs, all the more impressive considering he plays on the offensive line.
Six different Bulldogs scored touchdowns on Saturday night, helping to the team to its 37th consecutive home win over a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opponent.
Logan Lauters led the rushing attack with 70 yards and a touchdown, with scores also coming on the ground from Logan Lauters, Chaz Thomas, and Steve Ierulli.
Senior quarterback Chase Vogler completed 15-of-24 passes for 213 yards and a score, that coming on a 28-yard strike to Zach Zweifel on UMD's first possesion of the game.
UMD is now (5-1) this season and will next be in action on October 13 when they travel to take on Minot State.
