Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Hibbing, Minn. native and University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) senior outside hitter Kate Lange has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) preseason volleyball player of the year, it was announced on Thursday.

Lange was named after the 2012 season the NSIC player of the year, and she is also a three-time all-NSIC honoree and two time American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) All-American selection.

On pace to become UMD's all-time kills leader, Lange finished the 2012 season with 569 kills for the Bulldogs --- more than 200 more than any other individual NSIC player.

UMD will open the season on Sept. 6 at a tournament in Pensacola, Fla., with the Bulldogs' first conference match coming at home on Sept. 17 against Michigan Tech.
