NCHC Accepted as Single-Sport Conference

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) has been officially accepted by the NCAA as a single-sport conference, it was announced on Monday.

The decision, which was expected, came by virtue of an Aug, 8 vote by the NCAA Board of Directors and on the recommendation of the NCAA Administration Cabinet.

The NCHC was also granted an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division I tournament, meaning the winner of the conference's postseason tournament in guaranteed a spot in the 16-team NCAA field.

2013-14 will mark the NCHC's first season as a conference, with the University of Minnesota-Duluth acting as one of the league's six founding members and one of its current eight member institutions.
