Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Seven players from the Unviersity of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's and women's hockey programs have been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) scholar-athlete award winners, it was announced on Wednesday.

Senior forwards Audrey Cournoyer and Vanessa Thibault from the women's team each earned the honor for the third time, as did junior goaltender Aaron Crandall from the men's team.

Hermantown, Minn. native and sophomore forward Adam Krause, Superior, Wis. native and junior defenseman Tim Smith, sophomore defenseman Luke McManus, and sophomore forward Justin Crandall from the men's team was the fourth and final award recipient from UMD, with those honors being the first of each player's collegiate career.

In all, 114 student-athletes were honored this 2012-13 season by the WCHA with the scholar-athlete award, besting the previous record of 110 set in the 2011-12 year.
