Tampa Bay, FL (NNCNOW.com) --- The Tampa Bay Lightning has made a qualifying offer to free agent forward J.T. Brown, the team announced on Monday, preventing the former University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) star from becoming an unrestricted free agent.
Brown totaled 10 goals and 18 assists this past season with Syracuse in the American Hockey League (AHL), playing in just 51 games while missing part of the year with an injury.
The Lightning now has the option to match Brown's contract or draft pick compensation should he choose to sign with another NHL team.
Brown played two seasons with UMD, including the national championship year of 2010-11, and totaled 40 goals and 44 assists in 81 games during that span.
