Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) senior co-captain Joe Akey will be out indefinitely with a knee injury, school athletic officials confirmed to the Northland's NewsCenter on Saturday afternoon.

Akey suffered a knee injury in the Bulldogs' 70-24 win over Concordia-St. Paul on September 15, just three games into the 2012 season.

The senior defensive end also missed most of the 2011 season after suffering a knee injury in that year's opening game, but this most recent injury is to his other leg.

The officials did not rule out a return to the field yet this season for Akey, who could also apply for a medical redshirt and attempt to return for the 2013 season.
