Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Calgary, AB native Phelan Shaw has made a commitment to play his college hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), he confirmed via Twitter on Monday afternoon.

Shaw retweeted and responded to several messages of congratulations on the commitment on his Twitter account Monday, but waited until Tuesday afternoon to directly address his college plans.

"Just wanted to thank everyone who has helped me along my hockey career #blessed #Bulldog," Shaw tweeted.

The 16-year-old defenseman is currently playing with the Calgary Mustangs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), having totaled three goals and four assists through 21 games this season.

According to eliteprospects.com, which tracks NCAA recruits from around the world, Shaw is scheduled to arrive at UMD as a freshman for the 2016-17 season.
