UMD Men 5th in Preseason WCHA Media Poll

Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team has been picked to finish fifth this season in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) by select members of the media, it was announced on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs did not receive any first-place votes in the preseason poll, that after finishing the 2011-12 season second in the WCHA with a (16-7-5) conference record.

Minnesota, last year's WCHA champion, was selected as the preseason favorites for 2012-13, receiving 24 of a possible 25 first-place votes.

UMD freshman defenseman and Duluth native Andy Welinski received two votes for WCHA preseason rookie of the year, and Bulldogs senior defenseman Wade Bergman received three votes for the preseason all-WCHA team.
