Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team will meet with former WCHA rival Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday afternoon in the first ever North Star College Cup at the Xcel Energy Center.

Friday's meeting will be the 49th between the two schools with the Bulldogs holding a 25-17-6 lead in the rivalry.

The Mavericks are coming off of a sweep of No. 2 Ferris State University and head coach Scott Sandelin knows his guys will have to be ready.

"We certainly need to bring our best game," said Sandelin. "We need to play really well. I was certainly impressed with the way Mankato played last weekend against Ferris State. They were picked to win the WCHA for a reason, and they're playing extremely well right now."

Friday's game is set for 4:07 p.m.
