UMD Uses the Power Play to Beat Mankato

Duliuth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women's hockey team scored all three of their goals on the power play on Friday night to beat Minnesota State-Mankato 3-1 in their opener of 2014 at AMSOIL Arena.

The Bulldogs found themselves in an early one-goal deficit before reeling off three goals of their own. Junior forward Zoe Hickel put UMD on the board and knotted things up at 1-1.

Tea Villila added another goal in the second period for the Bulldogs, just minutes before Meghan Huertas made it 3-1 UMD.

Kayla Black earned the win in goal with 30 saves for the Bulldogs.

UMD (10-8-3) and Minnesota State-Mankato wil meet again on Saturday night at 6:07 p.m. for their annual "Pink the Rink" game.
