Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) junior placekicker Andrew Brees has been named to the watch list for the 2014 Fred Mitchell Award, which is handed out annually based on excellence on the field and in the community.
Brees is one of 36 nominees for this year's award, which is in its sixth year and will be handed out in February.
The West Allis, Wis. native was 10-of-15 on field goals in the 2013 season for UMD and 51-of-58 on extra points. He is entering his third season as the Bulldogs' primary kicker and is also expected to take over the punting duties this fall.
An all-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division first team selection in the 2012 season, Brees also has volunteered the past two winters at Courage Center Duluth in addition to serving at the annual Duluth Lions Club Pancake Day, the ALS Blizzard Tour and various UMD football camps and clinics.
