Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) senior forward Brett Ervin has a torn meniscus and will be out indefinitely for the men's basketball team, it was announced on Thursday morning.

Ervin suffered the injury this past Sunday, but the school did not specify exactly what happened to the 2013-14 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division preseason player of the year.

"Obviously, this is terrible news for our team and Brett," said head coach Matt Bowen, who is preparing for his team to open the regular season Nov. 9 at home against UW-Stout.

Ervin will meet with a surgeon on Friday morning to discuss options, and more will likely be known about his future with the Bulldogs following that meeting.
