UMD's Plante, USA Win at Ivan Hlinka

Piestany, Slovakia (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) assistant men's hockey coach Derek Plante and the United States Under-18 team earned a 4-2 win over Russia on Tuesday, marking the team's first win of the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

Plante is serving as an assistant coach for the United States team, which is now (1-1-0) in preliminary play at the international tournament.

The Americans got goals Nick Schmaltz, Jack Dougherty, JD Dudek, and Joe Snively in the winning effort, with goalie Alex Nedeljkovic earning the victory between the pipes.

Team USA will play its third and final preliminary round contest on Wednesday against Slovakia, with that game set for 10:30 a.m. CT.
