Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) junior Julie Rainey has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) defensive player of the week, it was announced on Monday.

Rainey had 41 digs in a pair of UMD wins over this past weekend, putting her now just 49 shy of the all-time program record of 1,703 held by 1991 graduate Cheryl Carlson.

The Stewartville, Minn. native averaged 6.83 digs per game this past weekend and also had no reception errors in 32 opportunities for the Bulldogs.

This marks the fourth time this 2013 season that Rainey has earned NSIC defensive player of the week honors.
