Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Matt Bowen and Jeff Rutter were announced Tuesday as the two finalists for the men's basketball head coaching position at UMD, previously held by longtime coach Gary Holquist.

Both finalists will be on campus later this week to interview with UMD administrators, with no timeline given as to when a final decision will be made.

Bowen is currently the head men's basketball coach at Bemidji State, helping the Beavers in 2011-12 to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) regular season title and a berth in the NCAA Division II tournament.

Bemidji State also set a program record with 22 wins under Bowen this past season, helping him earn NSIC coach of the year honors.

Rutter, meanwhile, is currently the director of basketball operations at Iowa State. He had previously coached at Northern Iowa, Stetson, North Dakota, and Wisconsin-Parkside.

In 14 years with the Bulldogs program, Holquist amassed a record of (206-197) and helped the team to two NCAA Division II tournaments.

He is still working within the UMD athletic department as the new director of development.
