Mankato, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The UMD softball team dropped its 2012 NCAA tournament opener on Friday afternoon, falling 7-5 to Concordia-St. Paul in Mankato.

The Bulldogs scored two runs in the sixth inning to draw even, but the Golden Bears added two in the seventh en route to the opening round win.

Duluth East graduate Tyra Kerr led UMD with three runs batted in, and it was Hermantown native Megan Mullen charged with the loss on the mound.

The Bulldogs are still alive in the double-elimination format and will play their second game of the tournament Saturday against either Minnesota State-Mankato or Fort Lewis.
