UW-Superior's Schultz Named NCHA Player of the Year

Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- UW-Superior freshman Dani Schultz has been named the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) player of the year, it was announced on Thursday.

Schultz has scored 21 goals in just 25 games this season for the Yellowjackets, helping them to the #2 seed in the upcoming NCHA playoffs.

Seven of Schultz's goals were game-winning tallies, tying her for first in the nation at Division III.

UW-Superior head coach Dan Laughlin was also honored by the NCHA on Thursday as he was named the 2012 coach of year after guiding his team to a (15-7-3) overall record this season.

For Laughlin, this marks the fourth time he has received NCHA coach of the year honors, having also won in 2004, 2006, and 2008.

The Yellowjackets open up the NCHA playoffs at home this weekend against St. Norbert. Both the Friday and Saturday games are set to start at 7:05 p.m. at Wessman Arena in Superior.
