Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- UW-Superior junior goalkeeper has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) men's soccer defensive athlete of the week, it was announced on Wednesday.

Elder first made five saves in the Yellowjackets' 3-0 win over Concordia, earning his ninth career shutout, before then again making five saves against #2-ranked Loras in a 1-1 overtime tie.

"Matt worked extremely hard during the off-season and came into last weekend in a great place physically and mentally and it showed with how he played," head coach Joe Mooney said. "He was the best player on the field and if this is any indication, he is looking to have a great year for us."

Through two games this season, Elder carries a 0.46 goals against average and a .909 saves percentage.
