Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- UW-Superior men's soccer goalkeeper Matt Elder and volleyball middle hitter Nikki Gosson have earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate (WIAC) athlete of the week honors, it was announced on Tuesday.

Elder is the WIAC men's soccer defensive player of the week after he helped his team to two wins this past week, including a 3-2 victory over Twin Ports rival St. Scholastica.

The sophomore goalkeeper so far this year has posted a (10-5-2) record for the Yellowjackets with a 1.25 goals against average.

Gosson, meanwhile, was named the WIAC volleyball athlete of the week after helping her UW-Superior team to a pair of conference road victories.

The senior finished with 17 kills in a Friday win over UW-Platteville, and then she followed that with 13 kills in the Yellowjackets' win over UW-La Crosse on Saturday to close out the 2012 season.

The senior captain for UW-Superior established new career highs this year with 284 kills, 93 digs, 62 blocks, and 26 service aces.
