Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn. may again be a possible host site for an NCAA Division I men's hockey regional tournament, officials confirmed to NNCNOW.com on Tuesday.
The thought was previously explored in 2009, but NCAA officials told people in Duluth the preference was to have neutral sites host the regional tournaments, meaning no home rinks of any Division I men's teams.
Now, with the 2015-18 site selection process officially released, officials at AMSOIL Arena say they will once again contact the NCAA about the possibility of bringing a tournament to Duluth, Minn.
The document, which can be viewed here, does not explicitly exclude a rink such as AMSOIL Arena for being a home site, but officials say it didn't in 2009, either.
AMSOIL Arena has played host to the NCAA Division I Frozen Four and Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Final Face Off on the women's side, but it has never been selected to host a major men's tournament.
Officials say they hope to know whether this will be a serious option for the rink within the next couple of weeks.
