AVCA Preseason Poll Puts UMD 4th in Nation

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) volleyball team has been tabbed fourth in NCAA Division II by the preseason poll put out by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA), it was announced on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs received two first-place votes in the poll, that after sitting fifth in the final poll of 2012 after posting an overall record of (29-5).

UMD boasts the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) preseason player of the year in Hibbing, Minn. native Kate Lange, with the program seeking its 11th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament.

The Bulldogs will open the season on the road on Sept. 6 at a tournament in Pensacola, Fla., with the team's home opener set for Sept. 17 against Michigan Tech.
