Cloquet, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Ashley Abrahamson grew up loving to play softball but, at just 13-years-old, she was killed in a car accident. Today, friends and family honored her by hosting the 14th Annual Ashley Abrahamson Tournament at Braun Park in Cloquet.

In 2000, Ashley's former coach, Ron Tondryk, started the memorial tournament with just eight teams at Sather Park in Scanlon, Minn.

The tournament is now directed by Ron Wondrasek, and his daughter, Sarah, who was a friend and classmate of Ashley's.

This year's tournament features 26 teams from around the area. Ashley's Mom, Kathy, said the weekend is a great way to remember her daughter.

"It touches our heart every year," Kathy said. "It means a lot. They put a lot of work into it starting probably a good six months ago or even before then. It's a very wonderful weekend."

Tournament play wraps-up on Sunday with one player from each team honored with an Ashley award.
