Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Columbus Blue Jackets do not plan on signing outgoing University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) senior defenseman Drew Olson, that according to a Thursday report by The Columbus Dispatch.

Columbus still owns the rights to Olson until August 15, when he would become an unrestricted free agent and be free to sign with any NHL team.

The Brainerd, Minn. native was taken by Columbus in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL draft. He skated in 144 games in four years for the Bulldogs, totaling three goals and 18 assists in that time and serving his senior season as an assistant captain.
