Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Duluth City Council is poised to vote next Monday night on whether to accept a contract bid from Astroturf, LLC for the purchase and installation of an artificial surface as part of the $2.3 million Wade Stadium renovation project.

The proposed plan would cost $554,980 and calls for a fully artificial field, including the pitcher's mound and batters boxes. This would be the first major decision about the renovation project since the state bonding money was granted this past May.

"It's a lot of money. I mean, it's not a small investment the city is making, and it's not unappreciated," Duluth Huskies general manager Craig Smith sad. "It's something that the city can not only use for baseball, but can use for softball, can use for football, or soccer in the fall for kids. This facility will be able to be unlimited use."

The Duluth City Council will vote on the issue at its meeting on July 21, with Councilor Howie Hanson writing on his blog earlier this week that the contract is expected to be approved.
