Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The #2-ranked Notre Dame men's hockey team scored three goals in the second period on Friday night, and that proved to be the difference in the Irish's 3-2 win over the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) at AMSOIL Arena.

Cal Decowski scored a goal in the second period for UMD, and then Duluth, Minn. native Andy Welinski scored a goal in the third period for the Bulldogs.

Aaron Crandall made 25 saves, several of them spectacular early on, to take the loss and move to (1-1-0) this year for UMD.

UMD is now (2-2-1) this season and will meet the Irish in the second game of the two-game set on Saturday night at 7:07 p.m., with that game set to be broadcast on KBJR6 and Range 11.
