Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) women's basketball team opened up its 2013 campaign with its first official practice at Romano Gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon after finishing last season with 14 wins.

The Bulldogs return three starters from that team. This year, UMD will be led by Barnum native and senior forward Katrina Newman.

Newman and head coach Annette Wiles are excited for what's to come in the year ahead.

"Knowing that we were banged up pretty bad most of last year and suffered through most of those injuries, having key players back healthy, and probably the most fit that they have been in their career, is certainly exciting for me as a head coach."

"Coach always talks about us as seniors. The team goes as we go, so I have a lot of people looking at me, and I have a lot of people that I can ask to help me."
