Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Duluth, Minn. native Kara Goucher was bound for Boston, Mass. on Friday morning ahead of Monday's 118th running of the Boston Marathon, that even though she will not be participating in this year's event.
Goucher has run the Boston Marathon three times in her career, placing sixth in last year's event, but she says it's important to be at the 2014 event after two bombs exploded near the finish line and turned the 2013 race into a national tragedy.
"Originally I didn't think I would go just because there would be so many people, but it got to the point where I couldn't say no to people who were asking, honestly," Goucher said. "I think it'll be good for me. I think it'll be a good weekend for a lot of people and for the running community, especially. I think it's going to be really healing for a lot of people."
Goucher is currently recovering from an injury but said she hopes to return in time to compete at either the New York Marathon or Chicago Marathon in the fall.
