Esko, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Esko Eskomos are set this weekend to open the community's new $2.7 million athletic facility, something which the student-athletes and fans have been waiting for since the flood of 2012 ravaged the high school's old home fields.
The Esko football team will be the first team to play on the new turf field, with the Eskomos set to take on Two Harbors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
"We're very excited," head football coach Bill Hudspith said. "Back in 1972, we probably had one of the best facilities around, but it's old and it's worn out. So we have a brand-new facility now, and it's going to really benefit athletics and the community here at Esko."
The multi-million-dollar project also includes bleachers, a building for concessions and locker rooms, a baseball field, a softball field, and a multi-weather track that circles the new turf surface.
The first soccer game to be played on the new surface will come for the Esko girls' team when they host Princeton on Saturday, with kickoff set for 3:00 p.m.
