Whitewater, WIs. (NNCNOW.com) --- The St. Scholastica baseball team qualified for a ninth straight NCAA Division III tournament this season by winning the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) postseason title, and the team thinks its collective experience will help.
The Saints head to the regional tournament in Whitewater, Wis. for a fourth straight year, so they have knowledge of the field they'll play on. Their first opponent is St. Thomas, a team they've seen in five of the past six NCAA Division III tournaments and twice this regular season.
All that added together means St. Scholastica players and coaches are confident they can accomplish what they want this week --- win the regional tournament.
"We just have to play our kind of game," Saints senior outfielder Kyle Flagstad said. "We have to make all the plays in the field, we have to come up with some big hits, and our pitching has to be dominant."
St. Scholastica is seeded sixth in the regional and will play top-seeded St. Thomas in the first game, with that set for 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Prucha Field in Whitewater, Wis.
